Think Boot Camp and you think Army, hard work, 5.00am starts and lots of jumping jacks … well, a different kind of Boot Camp has been redefining that concept for the past decade, and now it's back, and even better than before. And while there are still long hours and hard work, the 'exercise' is more mental than physical.
Recently 35 CPAs from the USA and Canada attended the 75th Accountants' Boot Camp, conducted by global accounting and consulting network, Principa. But this one was different to previous 74.
After a 4-year hiatus the program that helped literally thousands of accountants around the world build a better practice, Principa has re-launched the Boot Camp program with a focus on building a better compliance-based practice.
Ric Payne, President and CEO of Principa and veteran of all 75 Accountants' Boot Camps, said: "We've made some very significant changes to the old Accountants' Boot Camp program that make it far more relevant and useful for people who are happy offering traditional compliance services but who want to do that more effectively and more profitably.
In fact, we've totally redesigned the old Accountants' Boot Camp program with this goal in mind. The three-day live-in program, the resources, tools set and the support process that is linked to the program have been tailored to the needs of a traditional compliance focused practice.
At the same time we have built from the ground up a totally new Business Advisors' Boot Camp, to accommodate the needs of those people who want to expand their skills and services into the business-consulting arena."
Participant numbers have been kept to 35 to enable plenty of hands on and one-on-one interaction between the Principa team and attendees. The close interaction was one thing that California based attendee, Sandy Copas, found valuable. She said, "I really enjoyed the audience participation. It added a sense of belonging and helped lose the fear that we are alone in our transformation."
Other participants listed the focus on small to mid sized practices as being most valuable to them. In the words of California based Michael Anderson, "The thing I liked most about the Boot Camp was that it was geared toward practices similar in size to mine…that, coupled with the fact that Principa provides the tools necessary to implement the many new ideas."
The new format Accountants' Boot Camp delivers extraordinary value to both first-time attending firms and those who attended the original Boot Camp program. John Auman, whose California based firm had partners attend the original Boot Camp in 1992 said "The Boot Camp has reinvigorated me at a difficult time in our practice and gives me hope for our firm's future".
Accountants' Boot Camp programs are scheduled to take place in the USA, Australia / New Zealand and the United Kingdom annually.
The next program happens at the beautiful Gold Coast in Australia from August 23 – 25, 2004.
